"Wonder" really lifts up to its title. Reading this book makes you wonder. Wonder about how lucky you are to be living the way you are, and just how imbelic of you for never really wondering that.
And most importantly, it makes you feel wonderful.
It's simply a book about a simple boy named August who's living a simple life, but with a burden that isn't really as simple as everything else. He went through something so few of us would've understood. But through August's eyes, everything felt so real. His emotions so pure and benign that it's arousing, his actions so true and spontaenous that it felt factual, like he
... See More isn't just some character from a fictional book, but a real human being who does things we all do.
But what's amazing about this book is how August finally got past what he first thought was a 'burden,' into something that he then can accept as part of who he is. R.J Palacio did a wonderful job on developing her characters. We can see clearly how August gradually grows, from that boy who did nothing but hid under his shell, to the boy who finally dares to live the life he was supposed to. And I love how Palacio showed that change in such puerile ways through August's everyday life; how he interacts with his friends, his school experiences, his family, and even his dog. Every moment, every thought, every memory collided with each other and make perfect aspects to the newly transformed August we see in the end.
More so, we get to see from other's point of view like August's sister and his friends. So therefore we get to see not just what August thought of himself, but also how others viewed him.
That is a real crucial part of this book as through this numerous point of view was when I get to see the true quality in August. How he wasn't just that boy with a sob story to tell, but a boy who also did wonderful things likewise his physical concerns.
I flew throughout this book. It is just such a heartwarming book that did enough for me to see that everything I always thought I couldn't have doesn't really matter.
Because what truly matters is those I have, and how I embrace them to the fullest.
