Theranos was a unicorn, a miracle, it was going to save the world. It was a series of lies and deceptions that went on for many years. Elizabeth Holmes was inspired to save the world. Her big idea was to use technology to reduce the amount of blood needed for tests. If a finger prick of blood can replace vials of bllod taken from a vein how great would that be? Sadly it didn't work and Theranos continued to raise money despite the fact that it didn't work.
How did this go on for so long? Didn't anyone notice? Holmes' personality was a major factor. Like her hero Steve Jobs she could get people to believe her and she seems to have had the chutzpah to continue to present Theranos as a success when the science wasn't working.
