NEW YORK TIMES bestseller

An illustrated book on the refugee crisis that will break your heart in under 48 pages, from the #1 New York Times-bestselling author of The Kite Runner, A Thousand Splendid Suns, and And the Mountains Echoed. A meaningful read to gift this holiday season.

Intensely moving. . .Powerfully evocative of the plight in which displaced populations find themselves.- Kirkus, STARRED Review

Hosseini's story, aimed at readers of all ages, does not dwell on nightmarish fates; instead, its emotional power flows from the love of a father for his son.- Publishers Weekly, STARRED BOX Review

A short, powerful, illustrated book written by beloved novelist Khaled Hosseini in response to the current refugee crisis, Sea Prayer is composed in the form of a letter, from a father to his son, on the eve of their journey. Watching over his sleeping son, the father reflects on the dangerous sea-crossing that lies before them. It is also a vivid portrait of their life in Homs, Syria, before the war, and of that city's swift transformation from a home into a deadly war zone.

Impelled to write this story by the haunting image of young Alan Kurdi, the three-year-old Syrian boy whose body washed upon the beach in Turkey in September 2015, Hosseini hopes to pay tribute to the millions of families, like Kurdi's, who have been splintered and forced from home by war and persecution, and he will donate author proceeds from this book to the UNHCR (the UN Refugee Agency) and The Khaled Hosseini Foundation to help fund lifesaving relief efforts to help refugees around the globe.

Khaled Hosseini is one of the most widely read writers in the world, with more than fifty-five million copies of his novels sold worldwide in more than seventy countries. Hosseini is also a Goodwill Envoy to the UNHCR, and the founder of The Khaled Hosseini Foundation, a nonprofit that provides humanitarian assistance to the people of Afghanistan.

Heartbreaking
By: Nadia Karina

This is an illustrated book, about war refugee. A letter from a father to his son. This is a thin book, but hits me hard. The illustration are heartbreaking. Hopefully with this book, people can understand more about refugee and have empathy for refugee.

Grief and Hope for Refugees
By: Dine Rostianti

No need for long sentences to describe the struggles and grief of the refugees. Sea Prayer contains a father's prayer for his son, about the beautiful life of their family in their hometown in the past, about the war that shattered happiness in their hometown, about the grief of losing loved ones, about the beautiful hope of a future life in a new land, about struggles to reach new happiness. The poetic sentences and watercolor paintings in this book add to the soul and compassion of the story told by Khaled Hosseini.

Deeply compelling
By: A. Budi

This text reads more like a graphic poem, which is something I have not come across before. Then he told us the proceeds go towards helping refugees all over the world, and for those with a home who can't imagine not having one, I say, read this text. Be aware that it was only 38 pages - but I didn't realize that it had less than one full page of text because it’s subtly enchanting. The resulting work is nothing short of a prayer.

The most unforgettable ordering experience ever
By: Neil Amelina
Sea Prayer is a short book, 48 pages. Yet, as usual, when it comes to Hosseini's book, it is always amazing.    In Sea Prayer, Hosseini teaming up with Dan Williams as the illustrator. Then, when Hosseini's magical story meets Williams' lovely illustrations, Sea Prayers is still a bomb.    Sea Prayers is heart-wrenching, just like Hosseni's previous three masterpieces. It brought me to tears. As the story was inspired by the case of Alan Kurdi, the 3 years old refugee who was drawn in Mediterranean Sea in his journey seeking for safety to Europe.    Furthermore, I would like to thank the party which had sent such a...
