Slavery vs Humanity
By: Dine Rostianti

A heartwarming and heartbreaking story. A man born as a free person, allegedly has been trapped by cunning people who sell him as a slave. An extremely inhuman slavery that occurred in the United States.

Although not all masters of slaves treated their slaves cruelly, however, for most of his slavery, Solomon obtained very cruel masters. Even though they worked well, slaves were always flogged by their masters. In fact, did nothing wrong, they were flogged for the pleasure of their master’s cruel demon lust. The slaves were required to work very hard, without mercy, given no decent time to rest, a decent place to rest and decent food. Some slaves even died as a result... See More

of their master's torture. Death that is the way out of all the sufferings of life.

With the help of noble people, willing to fight to uphold justice, even to the point of risking the safety of their own life, it becomes a gift of Solomon Northup to be free again to recount his painful life experiences. Can be an inspiring story for readers who no longer live in the age of slavery, that being a free human being is an extraordinary gift and that life's opportunities should be used to contribute positively to humanity.

Nice
By: Nisrina Ulayya

I picked this book on the account of the movie adaptation which won and nominated for a lot of Oscars. I haven't seen it, but I heard it was good so I decided to give this book a go. And yes, this book is good. This book provides us some insight into what it feels like to be a slave when previously you're a free man. It also kind of makes me sad because I think people like Solomon, born free and then kidnapped to be sold for slavery, is still happening today, even in this country. I definitely agree with this book that there should be no more slavery.
