Description

A sinister Problem has occurred in London: all nature of ghosts, haunts, spirits, and specters are appearing throughout the city, and they aren't exactly friendly. Only young people have the psychic abilities required to see-and eradicate-these supernatural foes. Many different Psychic Detection Agencies have cropped up to handle the dangerous work, and they are in fierce competition for business.

In The Screaming Staircase, the plucky and talented Lucy Carlyle teams up with Anthony Lockwood, the charismatic leader of Lockwood & Co, a small agency that runs independent of any adult supervision. After an assignment leads to both a grisly discovery and a disastrous end, Lucy, Anthony, and their sarcastic colleague, George, are forced to take part in the perilous investigation of Combe Carey Hall, one of the most haunted houses in England. Will Lockwood & Co. survive the Hall's legendary Screaming Staircase and Red Room to see another day?

Readers who enjoyed the action, suspense, and humor in Jonathan Stroud's internationally best-selling Bartimaeus books will be delighted to find the same ingredients, combined with deliciously creepy scares, in his thrilling and chilling Lockwood & Co. series.

Can't find the hardcover but softcover will do
By: Naomi Roring

I first read this book when I was in college. This was the first time ever I read a YA that made me scared shitless of a ghost apparition. It's so thrilling and unforgettable. And the characters! Lockwood is so charming and Lucy is such a badass, but George... Hilarious George with his sarcasm is, to be honest, my favorite. A really recommended book for people who love mystery and some thrilling ghosts.

Don’t read this book before bed
By: Maharani Thufailah

One of my friend recommend this book for me and he said it was one of his favorite series ever and he’s right, I can’t put this down, it was so good, thank god I order the rest of the series. The only problem is that I read this before bed and I had a nightmare, but overall it was a great book and I’m on second book already

Don't read it in the dark
By: Almeyda Tara

This book is so good yet creepy. My suggestion, don't read it before you sleep. I mean I can really feel the chill creeping up my body when they're in action. Oh and if you already watched Insidious or The Conjuring, maybe you'll familiar with the story. But I don't say that this book is like them, because so many surprises ahead. This book is talking about (you can say) the smallest Psychic Investigations Agency in London, named Lockwood & Co. This agency consists of three teenagers with their abilities to fight the ghosts during The Problem. Lockwood, the leader with his sharp sight. He has this kind of mysterious aura that makes girls fall for him (including... See More

me), and soooo secretive makes me want to peel those walls of him. Don't call him with his first name, trust me he won't like it. And oh he can't stay mad at Lucy for long time. *cough* Lucy, a sweet girl who you can't underestimate easily. She went to London to find a job, and met this agency. She has a good sensitivity and badass personality. She has this urge to always bickering with George, but once they have the same thing in their mind, they make really good team (sometimes about making Lockwood understand about something called sanity). Well actually the three of them make a great team. Last but not least, the chubbiest one, George. He really loves his donuts, and his comics. But of course without him, Lockwood & Co. will mostly burn everything behind because his intelligence at shorting everything and make investigations first before they face the ghosts save them all. Lockwood and Lucy tend to make everything worst with their impulsive behavior, but it isn't always bad tho. I like the way Mr. Stroud's explanation about Lucy past after they've done with a case. So I know what is this book about first, then know the reason why she ended with these kiddos. Because sometimes some of the writers will write about the situation of the main character from the very first time, and honestly it makes me bored. So, this book really EXCITES me to no end! The writing of this book is fantastic. Good job at it Mr. Stroud! I really should read the second book asap, but first I should take a deep breath before I faint.

The Screaming Staircase - Jonathan Stroud
By: Ceria Tantrika

Saya menyelesaikan novel ini dalam waktu yang cukup lama dibandingkan saat membaca novel lain. Bukan karena tebalnya atau karena isinya yang kurang menarik. Justru sebaliknya. Saya terseret jalinan kata yang dibuat Stroud. Ceritanya merasuk dan membuat saya merasa ikut masuk. Imajinasi yang terbentuk menjadikan saya seolah menyaksikan sebuah film horror daripada sekedar membaca novel. Baru berapa halaman, saya berhenti membaca karena merinding. Dan ini berulang. Stroud berhasil menghantui hari-hari saya. Tak sabar menanti versi filmnya.
