out of all the books i've read in 2018 so far (i've read 8), this was probably the most disappointing (i'm sorry!!!). it was an okay book. with an okay main character and okay plot. but it's the writing that disappointed me the most. i was definitely not a big fan of Emma Cline's prose, it felt too overwritten, too pretentious even. i initially did not want to finish it (because of the writing), but before i read this, i didnt know this was heavily inspired by the Manson family, so by the third chapter i was intrigued and determined to read all of it. overall, i enjoyed her depiction of the confusion and uncertainty of being a young-girl, it was very relatable and it reminded me of being a confused 14-year-old girl.
