Refugee Teenager
By: Dine Rostianti

Initially Yusra & her family’s life went on normally and was fine. Until the war in Syria emerged and ruined Yusra's life and dreams. Bombs can suddenly appear and kill anyone, anytime, and wherever he or she is. Moving from their family home to other residences to find a safe place is a temporary solution. Until finally Yusra and her sister Sara, decided to leave Syria, fleeing to Germany to obtain a safe life. The journey is difficult and there is no guarantee they will survive until the destination country. However, staying in Syria is not an option.

then I might have the wrong perception that this group of young people is doing backpacker travelling. And uniquely, young people like Yusra and her friends managed to have fun or make jokes in the atmosphere of war in Syria or during heavy journey while fleeing. Just to relax the tension from all the pressures of life.

Arriving in Germany safely, does not mean the struggle is over. Luckily, Yusra found new friends in Germany who supported her with high sincerity. There are times when she thought and acted mature like an adult, but she also acknowledges there are times when she sulked and acted childishly by not appreciating all the support given to her. There are still many challenges that must be faced by Yusra and family to survive. Because life is a struggle, with its level and shape for each person.
