I was absolutely in love with the first book (Ninth House) and was really excited about how the story would go in the sequel. At first I was feeling alright about the plot, but the more it got closer to the ending, the more I didn't feel it. The part with the rival druglord, suspicious Michelle, the whole whodunnit faculty terror, sudden involvement of Mercy and Tripp, the Hell population popping out in New Haven...it just made me feel like rolling my eyes. The entire story is not bad but somehow this feels like a fanservice for Sterlington shippers. I like Pamela's character development, though, she's vital in the core of the story.
