Description

How does one talk about love? Is it even possible to describe something at once utterly mundane and wholly transcendent, that has the power to consume our lives completely, while making us feel part of something infinitely larger than ourselves?

Taking a unique approach to this age-old problem, the nameless narrator of David Levithan's The Lover's Dictionary constructs the story of a relationship as a dictionary. Through these sharp entries, he provides an intimate window into the great events and quotidian trifles of coupledom, giving us an indelible and deeply moving portrait of love in our time.

The best kind of dictionary there is
By: Vania Desmonda
Love /lʌv/  noun. 1. a profoundly tender, passionate affection for another person.   The Lover's Dictionary is a story about two lovers narrated from one point of view. The story tells the highs and lows of their relationship and reminds readers that love doesn't have to be perfect to have a story worth telling.   What allured me and compelled me to read this book at first was the unusual format. Unlike other books, this book is not arranged in a chronological order but in an alphabetical order - like a dictionary. There are subtle ways in which words are defined, using short anecdotes that relate to the words.   The unnamed... See More
couple meet online. Gradually, their love blooms and progresses, marking their milestones in short dictionary entries. Sometimes though things don't go too well, but it just makes the story seem more realistic and believable. This book is a quick, heartwarming, and fluffy read. The writing style engages the audience and captivates them. Overall, although the story can be a little confusing at times, this book is highly enjoyable and makes the perfect gift for valentine's day or romance literary enthusiasts.   “Trying to write about love is ultimately like trying to have a dictionary represent life. No matter how many words there are, there will never be enough.”

By: Irma NURDIANA

You may have read or know love story in all possible forms. Poems, sonnets, novels, short stories, and many more. As there are countless way to tell how one is in love.

However, David Levithan made a breakthrough with this novel.

First and foremost, it's written like a dictionary. Yes, you'll see the A to Z of what makes a relationship. Not every item is about love, but each one of them show love. Sad, disappointment, promises, and every single details one has just by being in a relationship.

All the good and bad things, the joy and tears in a relationship mentioned in this book.
