If you re going to take a hike, it s probably the place to go. And Bill Bryson is surely the most entertaining guide you ll find. He introduces us to the history and ecology of the trail and to some of the other hardy (or just foolhardy) folks he meets along the way and a couple of bears. Already a classic, "A Walk in the Woods " will make you long for the great outdoors (or at least a comfortable chair to sit and read in)."

Funniest travel book that launched Bryson's career
By: Antonius B.

If you’re thinking about hiking the Appalachian Trail and looking for a book to guide you in your planning and decision, this is not the book for you.

There are 2 types of Bryson book: Thematic and Narrative. Both are still funny, but one is clearly superior than the other. the first 40 pages are very funny, yet the rest are amusing rambling that goes toward the history of parks and the National Park Service. Most of the books is his observation about how man is causing environmental damage that may be irreparable.

However amusing his anecdote, this books does show how Bill Bryson is still learning the ropes so there’s some gems in there.
