not gonna lie but after i finished this book when i realized just how bad Jude St. Francis's life really was, i had to close my eyes for a few minutes and take a really deep breath to try to keep myself together. it was so devastating, what happened to Jude throughout his life was so unacceptable that i felt so angry at Hanya Yanagihara for writing something like this. i mean, give the poor guy some break and leave him alone!!

If you are prepared to spend some time with these characters, not upset about content easily, and fancy something challenging and absorbing that might take over your life for a while, then I think this is worth the time spent reading it.. The writing is beautiful, although too full of methapors. I can see why many, many people enjoyed this book. Really, Hanya Yanagihara knows how to use language.

It’s a poignant read. The novel follows four friends - Willem, JB, Malcolm, and Jude - from around their mid-20s well into their 50s, as they live in New York City post college and try to carve out lives and identities for themselves. the main focus is on the character of Jude, a mysterious/enigmatic man who has a terrible past shrouded in mystery.
