A Little Life follows four college classmates--broke, adrift, and buoyed only by their friendship and ambition--as they move to New York in search of fame and fortune. While their relationships, which are tinged by addiction, success, and pride, deepen over the decades, the men are held together by their devotion to the brilliant, enigmatic Jude, a man scarred by an unspeakable childhood trauma. A hymn to brotherly bonds and a masterful depiction of love in the twenty-first century, Hanya Yanagihara's stunning novel is about the families we are born into, and those that we make for ourselves.

emotionally exhausting
By: Karin Sarwono

not gonna lie but after i finished this book when i realized just how bad Jude St. Francis's life really was, i had to close my eyes for a few minutes and take a really deep breath to try to keep myself together. it was so devastating, what happened to Jude throughout his life was so unacceptable that i felt so angry at Hanya Yanagihara for writing something like this. i mean, give the poor guy some break and leave him alone!!

sans-serif; font-size: 13px; font-style: italic; letter-spacing: 0.156px;">this was kind of story that never gets better, from the first to the last page; terrible things just keep happening to everyone. for a moment (by the fifth part, because of the misleading title), i was so convinced that it would actually get better and Jude would finally get his happily ever after. boy, i was so wrong. they never did and i realized that it will only get worse.

so if you decide to read this... well... just brace yourselves. dont say i didnt warn you.

five little lives
By: Antonius B.

If you are prepared to spend some time with these characters, not upset about content easily, and fancy something challenging and absorbing that might take over your life for a while, then I think this is worth the time spent reading it.. The writing is beautiful, although too full of methapors. I can see why many, many people enjoyed this book. Really, Hanya Yanagihara knows how to use language.

It’s a poignant read. The novel follows four friends - Willem, JB, Malcolm, and Jude - from around their mid-20s well into their 50s, as they live in New York City post college and try to carve out lives and identities for themselves. the main focus is on the character of Jude, a mysterious/enigmatic man who has a terrible past shrouded in mystery.
