Description

NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER - Red Rising hit the ground running and wasted no time becoming a sensation. Golden Son continues the stunning saga of Darrow, a rebel forged by tragedy, battling to lead his oppressed people to freedom.

NAMED ONE OF THE BEST BOOKS OF THE YEAR BY NPR, BUZZFEED, AND BOOKLIST - "Gripping . . . On virtually every level, this is a sequel that hates sequels--a perfect fit for a hero who already defies the tropes. [Grade: ] A"--Entertainment Weekly

As a Red, Darrow grew up working the mines deep beneath the surface of Mars, enduring backbreaking labor while dreaming of the better future he was building for his descendants. But the Society he faithfully served was built on lies. Darrow's kind have been betrayed and denied by their elitist masters, the Golds--and their only path to liberation is revolution. And so Darrow sacrifices himself in the name of the greater good for which Eo, his true love and inspiration, laid down her own life. He becomes a Gold, infiltrating their privileged realm so that he can destroy it from within.

A lamb among wolves in a cruel world, Darrow finds friendship, respect, and even love--but also the wrath of powerful rivals. To wage and win the war that will change humankind's destiny, Darrow must confront the treachery arrayed against him, overcome his all-too-human desire for retribution--and strive not for violent revolt but a hopeful rebirth. Though the road ahead is fraught with danger and deceit, Darrow must choose to follow Eo's principles of love and justice to free his people.

He must live for more.

Praise for Golden Son

"Stirring . . . Comparisons to The Hunger Games and Game of Thrones series are inevitable, for this tale has elements of both."--Kirkus Reviews

"Brown writes layered, flawed characters . . . but plot is his most breathtaking strength. . . . Every action seems to flow into the next."--NPR

Worthy sequel to a great book
By: Antonius B.

Slightly more political than the first book, follow Darrow as he builds his power structure across Mars. Reaper has ascended and a revolution is coming. Roque, Tactus, Cassius, Mustang and Sevro is back, but they’re not all on Darrow’s side. I don’t want to speak too much to the plot, but know that it is incredibly intricate, smart and sets the tone nicely for the third book.

I think it a step down from book one, but still good. it did drag in the beginning for me and suffered slightly from second book syndrome where it tries to set up the latter book while giving a call back to the first one.

Action-packed sci-fi with melodramatic speeches...
By: Ganda Rakhman

I gave Red Rising a four stars. I loved it, but I deducted a star because of how it went very "hunger-games". This second book removed that aspect, but I still cannot give it a full five stars. The reason is there in the first book, but it's becoming distinctly obvious in the second one: the over melodramatic speeches and the convenient plot twist that somehow in favor of the main protagonist, no matter how much of a failure he is.  The plot is tighter and... the supporting characters are able to pull us in. However, probably a trap of using first person point of view, despite knowing the psyche & inner motivation of the main character, we also notice how self-absorbed he is. The grandiose writing (for better or worse) is not helping. But holly, those distractions still able to make me tune in. It's almost feel like star wars in roman period, and Pierce Brown still make you care for the characters (at least, the interesting one like Sevro or Ragnar)

Get it, get it
By: Tania Anggastini

This book is not as good as red rising because some parts are too slow for my liking but some quotes successfully linger on my mind longer than the previous book. Some things are got better, some are not so good for Darrow. However suit yourself and read this one. Still a recommended one.

What a book
By: Nisrina Ulayya

I'm a fan of this series, definitely. Though there are some of the things I questioned in this book, but overall it's just a great science fiction book. Some people might argue that some of the characters in this book use a high language in their speech, but I think it's due to their caste so it's not a problem for me. For someone who would just ignore that kind of things, this book is a good read, especially in terms of the plot. Love it!
