Shafak's The Island of Missing Trees is about a forbidden love story that took place in Nicosia, Cyprus and London, England between Costas a male Greek Cypriot and and Dafne a Turkish Cypriot lady. Their love story began from th year 1974 in the midst of civil war. The Island of Missing Trees involves a role of a fig tree as the witness and story teller of their love.
