This book scared me. It is kinda depressing but still a good book from Kirino.
The story revolves around four high school girls that are helping a guy they barely know to escape because he killed his own mother. Layer by layer, we get to know who the girls really are. Who they are on the inside is not much the same as they are on the outside. And this guy helps them in a way you can't imagine.
So, Kirino's writing style is a bit of a pain. Non-linear and sometimes fast, sometimes slow. The dialouges are a little weird, like memorizing the lines for a movie. Idk but I just feel that way. BUT the way she describes the characters are beyond amazing. The... See More
characters don't really have any unique personality, to be honest, but Kirino describes them like they are the most complicated people in the world. She sees beyond them, gives them voices to speak for their own. And every single one of them maybe are a bit much like us. We're all flawed no matter how flawless we want to be. I can relate deeply to the characters, and I'm sure you will too.
All of the characters love-hate each other. They think that the others don't understand them, but what they didn't know is that they are much alike. They're living in their own world but they didn't realize that their worlds are so similar. It's sad though to see that they can't lean on each other (and they are friends, for god's sake).
So, to you die-hard crime fans may not really enjoy this because the book is not about the crime, really. But it's still a very good and deep-written book that is worth your time. So many layers within the characters. I can't put it down.
