"At once a scholar's homage to The Iliad and startlingly original work of art by an incredibly talented new novelist....A book I could not put down."
--Ann Patchett

"Mary Renault lives again " declares Emma Donoghue, author of Room, referring to The Song of Achilles, Madeline Miller's thrilling, profoundly moving, and utterly unique retelling of the legend of Achilles and the Trojan War. A tale of gods, kings, immortal fame, and the human heart, The Song of Achilles is a dazzling literary feat that brilliantly reimagines Homer's enduring masterwork, The Iliad. An action-packed adventure, an epic love story, a marvelously conceived and executed page-turner, Miller's monumental debut novel has already earned resounding acclaim from some of contemporary fiction's brightest lights--and fans of Mary Renault, Bernard Cornwell, Steven Pressfield, and Colleen McCullough's Masters of Rome series will delight in this unforgettable journey back to ancient Greece in the Age of Heroes.

Divine work of art by Madeline Miller
By: Farhan Hibatullah

*trying to write my thoughts down, because I'm still in shock and still broken for what happened after I finished reading the last sentence of this book* ... See More

Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; vertical-align: baseline; color: rgb(0, 0, 0);">Okay This book is less than 400 pages. Should be easy for me to read this only with one sit reading, in a day. But it wasn't the matter of the number of the pages, that made me finish this book in several days. It was because I chose not to. Not to finish this book that quick.  Even though I was craving about how the story in this book would end, I didn't want to rush things. I didn't want to "only read" this book, but I wanted "to live" in every words written by Madeline Miller.  All praise to her work, to this debut book that she created for ten years. She poured everything she had in her mind beautifully, perfectly, to this book. Her effort for ten years did not come out as a failure, at all. I regard her, I praise her for this diamond.  She wrote this book through Patroclus' point of view, and as I read it, I felt the soul of him lives inside it. I felt that this book was written by him, by Patroclus himself. And I am broken. My heart is still broken. I actually didn't want to finish it, but it's happened. It's finished.  I do still want to read more about what's happening between Patroclus and Achilles. I want to know their stories, trough the brilliant work of Ms. Miller. How I love the way she depicted their stories, flawlessly, perfectly.  She said that in other stories, Patroclus was such an underdog, and she wanted to give him a voice, to let people know how he's been through all his life, and she did it! Patroclus is a hero, even Briseis told Achilles that Patroclus was worth ten of Achilles. I love how she retells the Trojan War. For those things, I couldn't stop thanking Madeline Miller, for this divine work. Thank you, thank you, thank you. “In the darkness, two shadows, reaching through the hopeless, heavy dusk. Their hands meet, and light spills in a flood like a hundred golden urns pouring out of the sun.” — Madeline Miller, The Song of Achilles
