Description

Madeleine L'Engle's ground-breaking science fiction and fantasy classic, now a major motion picture.

It was a dark and stormy night; Meg Murry, her small brother Charles Wallace, and her mother had come down to the kitchen for a midnight snack when they were upset by the arrival of a most disturbing stranger.

Wild nights are my glory, the unearthly stranger told them. I just got caught in a downdraft and blown off course. Let me sit down for a moment, and then I'll be on my way. Speaking of ways, by the way, there is such a thing as a tesseract.

A tesseract (in case the reader doesn't know) is a wrinkle in time. To tell more would rob the reader of the enjoyment of Miss L'Engle's unusual book. A Wrinkle in Time, winner of the Newbery Medal in 1963, is the story of the adventures in space and time of Meg, Charles Wallace, and Calvin O'Keefe (athlete, student, and one of the most popular boys in high school). They are in search of Meg's father, a scientist who disappeared while engaged in secret work for the government on the tesseract problem.

A Wrinkle in Time is the winner of the 1963 Newbery Medal. It is the first book in The Time Quintet, which consists of A Wrinkle in Time, A Wind in the Door, A Swiftly Tilting Planet, Many Waters, and An Acceptable Time.

A Wrinkle in Time is now a movie from Disney, directed by Ava DuVernay, starring Storm Reid, Oprah Winfrey, Reese Witherspoon and Mindy Kaling.

This title has Common Core connections.

Praise for A Wrinkle in Time:

"A Wrinkle in Time is one of my favorite books of all time. I've read it so often, I know it by heart. Meg Murry was my hero growing up. I wanted glasses and braces and my parents to stick me in an attic bedroom. And I so wanted to save Charles Wallace from IT." --Meg Cabot

"A book that every young person should read, a book that provides a road map for seeking knowledge and compassion even at the worst of times, a book to make the world a better place." --Cory Doctorow

Chronicles of Narnia, redux.

A Wrinkle of Time is a sci-fi fantasy novel by Madeleine L'Engle, Debuting without much fanfare but gaining popularity and cult following in the later years. Culminating in the Disney movie/series. The movie sucked. So I am at a crossroad here; on the one hand I really like this book and the stories and the world behind it, on the other hand there is a lot of religious imagery and scripture and theological mumbo jumbo that find its way into the text. I am unsure whether these imagery enriches the plot or distracts us from it.

All in all, I find the plot and the worldbuilding very interesting and thus would give this book recommendation for a read. I particularly enjoy... See More

the way L’Engle uses all female character as the most important character , and making the dad as the ubiquitous “damsel-in-distress”, thus making this a genre breaking novel. Thumbs up!

Review!
By: Almeyda Tara

A Wrinkle in Time is a book about child's wonder and dream. The story is simple and yet engaging in some parts. I love how Madeleine named her characters, I mean Mrs. Whatsit, Mrs. Who, Mrs. Witch, and Happy Medium? They are so creative and unique! This story started when Meg, his brother Charles, and his-kinda-friend Calvin were looking for Meg's father who mysteriously disappeared after he found about the fifth dimension of time travel. It was not just a normal rescuing story because they needed to travel the universe to reach his father's whereabouts. In here, Mrs. Whatsit, Mrs. Who, and Mrs. Witch escorted The Trio through the universe! They went to some beautiful... See More

planets and places, they all are so unique! That, until they reached Camazotz, the place that controlled by IT, an evil creature that can controlled your minds! So, the hell broke loose everyone! The story is getting scarier and I was so scared of Mr. Red lmao truly. Overall, this book is page turning and although at first, Meg and Calvin relationship was rather eh confusing? Idk, they just suddenly befriended each other and Calvin was okay with traveling through the universe with the strangers. Buuut, I was quite enjoying this book!

I'm thoroughly entertained for the whole book. This books is very magical. Surely one of the best children's books. Not sure why I never picked this book when I was a kid, but even as an adult I enjoyed it very much.
