This novel inverts modern day society on its head in a beautifully created narrative of an alternate society. Women are granted power to channel electricity (hence the title, “power”) and do harm in a world dominated by men (again, hence the title, “power”). Utopia at first transforms to dystopia as themes of humanity are brought up and questioned. As the saying goes, “Absolute power corrupts absolutely.”
Athough the plot is a bit choppy, and the writing could be better, it's an interesting take on gender roles, power, and corruption of values. I can see why this won a book prize
