Sixteen-year-old Starr Carter moves between two worlds: the poor neighborhood where she lives and the fancy suburban prep school she attends. The uneasy balance between these worlds is shattered when Starr witnesses the fatal shooting of her childhood best friend Khalil at the hands of a police officer. Khalil was unarmed.

Soon afterward, his death is a national headline. Some are calling him a thug, maybe even a drug dealer and a gangbanger. Protesters are taking to the streets in Khalil's name. Some cops and the local drug lord try to intimidate Starr and her family. What everyone wants to know is: what really went down that night? And the only person alive who can answer that is Starr.

But what Starr does--or does not--say could upend her community. It could also endanger her life.

An eye opener!
By: Rosy Tandean

The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas is a powerful and important novel which is inspired by Black Lives Matter movement. I don't know how to rate this book because of all the hype surrounding it and the sensitive topics it brings. The writing isn't my favorite, it was kind of hard for me to get into because it had a lot of swearing and cursing. Don't get me wrong! It's a book that everyone should find something valuable in. It is impactful because the author wrote a very true and genuine story from a realistic perspective, but it could have been executed so much more better.

My most favorite book
By: Almeyda Tara

This book is worth the hype, for real. The eye-opening book that makes you realized that another lives are matter and makes you grateful if you are living in a diversity.  THUG is worth your time, trust me. I heard a lot about Black Lives Matter Movement here and there but haven't actually know their struggle. How hard it is for being the minoritiesAfter read this book, I really came to my sense that this world will never be fair. The justice, the law, the freedom? Sometimes they just didn't work at some situationThe story felt so real, like I really there with Starr, with the demons-trans, with everyone in the neighborhood. Wanted to be heard, wanted to show the world that they want a peaceful life too, they deserve it.

THUG is the Best Book of 2017
By: Yunia Damayantii

So, The Hate U Give is about six-year-old [black] girl named Starr Carter who fight to find justice for her friend, Khalil Harris who was killed by a [white] cop. This book is basically from social media's movements #BlackLivesMatter that happened last... See More

year, if I'm not mistaken. And the story continues about Starr's life on her neighborhood that surrounded by gangbangers, drug dealers and stuffs. Starr also has to choose between become Williamson-Starr or Garden Heights-Starr. Will she find a justice for Khalil and the rest of black people's live? You need to find out, ASAP! My thoughts about this book is beyond words, I got this book in hardback and the shape is wonderful. *eyegasm* It's my best of 2017 for sure. The story that Angie Thomas has brought is truthfully hurt and it happens in the real world. NO JOKING! Racism and violent against minorities are the biggest problem this time and we have to stand against it. And this book....this book teaches you to be open-minded person and makes you care about what happen around you. Also, I love Starr's family. Daddy, Momma, Seven and Sekani. What a family! Eventhough they're living in thug neighborhood, it doesn't make them thug family :") and Starr's boyfriend, Chris (who ridiculously "white" person) he is so adorable and very gentle toward Starr. And last, this book is so damn amazing. Y'all MUST READ this. *dab*
