The story begins with a young man encountering the inhabitants of a strange village built in the sands, whereupon he is unwittingly lied into being lowered to a widow’s house at the bottom of a sand basin; he soon realizes there is no escape from the sand hole and that the ever falling sand must be shoveled into buscket for removal each day or it will bury the house and its inhabitants.
Reminds me of the movie “Get Out.” This story is eerie in places, the sense of isolation, detachment and claustrophobia is at times overwhelming. The style of writing is sparse which adds to the overall feeling of isolation and despair. Weird, but I like it. Not for children.
