Description

In a dystopian future Japan, forty-two junior high school students are outfitted with weapons and bid to kill one another until there is only one left standing.

Koushun Takami's notorious high-octane thriller envisions a nightmare scenario: a class of junior high school students is taken to a deserted island where, as part of a ruthless authoritarian program, they are provided arms and forced to kill until only one survivor is left standing. Criticized as violent exploitation when first published in Japan--where it became a runaway best seller--Battle Royale is a Lord of the Flies for the 21st century, a potent allegory of what it means to be young and (barely) alive in a dog-eat-dog world.

if you like the movie you will absolutely like this book

I bought and read this book because I have watch the movie and read the manga,

and of course the book is way better than the movie.  I still think Battle Royale is better than Hunger Games, but well I never read The Hunger Games book.

if you don't know the movie, it's about a government program where they randomly choose a class of junior high school year 9, send them to an island, give them weapon (grenade, gun, sickle or anything, you name it) and left them to kill each other.  Can they kill their classmate?

It is interesting because there are 42 students, although at first it was frustrating because there are too many characters, but you will eventually know more about them.  The story was told by a third person, and the way the author tell the story change as if it was told by different students.
