Description

Sherlock Holmes
The Complete Novels and Stories

Volume I

Since his first appearance in Beeton's Christmas Annual in 1887, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's Sherlock Holmes has been one of the most beloved fictional characters ever created. Now, in two paperback volumes, Bantam presents all fifty-six short stories and four novels featuring Conan Doyle's classic hero--a truly complete collection of Sherlock Holmes's adventures in crime!

Volume I includes the early novel A Study in Scarlet, which introduced the eccentric genius of Sherlock Holmes to the world. This baffling murder mystery, with the cryptic word Rache written in blood, first brought Holmes together with Dr. John Watson. Next, The Sign of Four presents Holmes's famous "seven percent solution" and the strange puzzle of Mary Morstan in the quintessential locked-room mystery.

Also included are Holmes's feats of extraordinary detection in such famous cases as the chilling " The Adventure of the Speckled Band," the baffling riddle of "The Musgrave Ritual," and the ingeniously plotted "The Five Orange Pips," tales that bring to life a Victorian England of horse-drawn cabs, fogs, and the famous lodgings at 221B Baker Street, where Sherlock Holmes earned his undisputed reputation as the greatest fictional detective of all time.

There Are No Boring Stories
By: Dine Rostianti

2 novels and 37 stories are all exciting, curious, sometimes tense and there are no boring stories.

Holmes and Watson, perfect partner & somehow funny bromance. These two men have strong ties and need each other. Although Holmes often shows the attitude that his analytical skills are superior to others, however, to Watson he often reveals that he needs Watson in his investigative activities.

Watson expressed his view several times that Holmes was more like a machine than a human. In fact, in some stories, Holmes is not a cold-hearted or anti-social person. He is indeed dominated by logical thinking rather than feeling. Even so, Holmes is a man who has high... See More

empathy for the victims, he can also suspect the motives of the perpetrators based on human feelings or emotions. He has a high ability of persuasion to clients, sources, victims, perpetrators as well as the police and detectives. Holmes is gentle on victims and very hard on people who commit crimes. Luckily, with his extraordinary intelligence, Holmes defended truth and humanity. All of these things make Sherlock Holmes a fictional character who has many fans until now, even though it has been more than a century since he was created by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle.

Another great collection
By: Alfa Reza

I have come to love collections of stories and this one is great. I even enjoy the archaic language and mores in the stories. The price is unbeatable for this classic. Highly recommend.

Great Adventures
By: Busyra

Everyone must be familiar with the eccentric detective, Sherlock Holmes, but not everyone has read his true adventures. This book is one of the choice, it contains 2 of Holmes novels (A Study in Scarlet, The Sign of Four) and 3 short story collections (The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes, The Memoirs of Sherlock Holmes, The Return of Sherlock Holmes). From just one book, we can be acquainted with Sherlock Holmes in person and in work. From Dr. John Watson narrations, we're brought to 221B Baker Street, knowing Holmes' personality, habits, methods, and all.

For the two novels describe a big deal of that, the short stories give some little facts but still interesting.... See More

Like 'A Scandal in Bohemia', a short story from The Adventures, is one that showing Holmes' perception about women (or a woman). He often describes as a cold, heartless human, is he so? A story like 'The Adventure of Speckled Band' has the real adventure in it with the tension and the question. Amazing flashback about Musgrave Ritual, the conspiracy for Naval Treaty, or the pressure from Charles Augustus Milverton, the famous fall in 'The Final Problem', as well as the reunion in 'The Adventure of the Empty House', all in one book.

Once you finished this, you might be craving for the second volume.
